Annual Flowers

Top 10 New Annuals for 2011

Phantom Petunia at Prairie Gardens

Attention Black Flower fans!  ‘Phantom’ Petunia glows with black velvety flower petals but has the addition of a vibrant yellow star on each flower.

Plant in spring and they will continue to thrive throughout the season on into the beginning of haunting season!  Incredible when paired with Yellow Daisies.

Scentropia Heliotrope at Prairie Gardens This free-flowering heliotrope features large flower heads and a heat tolerance far superior to other heliotrope varieties.

These plants have a great mounded habit and adorn their fragrant dark purple-blue flowers all season long.  You will love this flower in planters on the deck!
Gryphon Begonia at Prairie Gardens

Gryphon Begonias are easy-care and highly tolerant of drought, which makes them ideal for shady, dry gardens and pots.

Tropical foliage is fabulous through the season!

 Calceolaria Kentish Hero Prairie Gardens

Kentish Hero Calceolaria.  Also known as Lady's Slipper, Poor Man's Orchid, Pouch Flower and Pocket Book Flower.

This beauty blooms and re-blooms all summer long in dense shade. Great in combination with begonias and impatiens.

Salvia Blue Angel

Salvia "Blue Angel".  Is truly an angel in true blue - a very hard color to find in an annual flower.

This fellow is very handsome in the centre of a large planter - giving both height and fabulous blue through the season.  I love it in combination with Trailing Yellow Sweet Potato Vine.

 Penstemon Pink

Penstemon is another gorgeous flower to replace those boring old spikes in the center of a pot with.

Show stopping pink and white blossoms are outstanding in combination with blue or yellow petunias.  Also nice with double calibrachoa (million bells)

 Calibrachoa Double Pink

Mini-famous Double Pink Calibrachoa (Million Bells).

These cheerful mini-carnation looking blossoms smother the plant and trail gracefully over the edge. Very pretty up close on the deck.

Crassula Campfire Prairie Gardens Crassula Campfire - easy to see how it got it's name!  This succulent will love being on a hot sunny patio, the hotter and drier the better.  The perfect plant for a busy gardener - needs very little care.
 Ostespermum Zion Red Copper

 Wow!  Osteospermum Zion Red Copper!

This cape daisy has amazing colors!  It is terrific in a flower bed, or plant with heliotrope to bring out the purple hues on the red petals.

Million Bells Blackberry Punch  Shades of black are hot this season!  Calibrachoa Black Berry Punch delivers a rich black berry purple center  ringed by an unusual brilliant purple ring.  Very pretty with Euphorbia Breathless Beauty.
